When we couldn’t hold her, we read to her.

A PASSION IS BORN

When our daughter was born nearly 12 weeks early in 2019, we settled in for a long haul in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Tulsa’s St. Francis Children’s Hospital. For many weeks, we were only able to hold our baby for small amounts of time. Books were a wonderful resource for us; reading allowed us to feel like we were experiencing “normal” moments with our baby and allowed us to connect with her. We spent 70 days in the NICU; and one year later, we donated the “Books for Butterflies” bookshelf to the NICU, as a thank you and a gift to other families in similar shoes. Today, the bookshelf is continuously filled with donated books and every newly admitted family to the NICU receives a book from the shelf to read to their baby.
